About The Game
Sometimes Always Monsters is an original two-dimensional role-playing game for PC and the continuation of 2014 Always Always Monsters. Both games were developed by independent studio Vagabond Dog and published by Devolver Digital. The plot of Sometimes Always Monsters is the exact opposite of the original of 2014. Technically, we control the same protagonist, but in Always Always Monsters, he or she was a writer struggling with a writer’s block and trying to stop his or her beloved from marrying another person. This time, he or she is a happy newlywed and best-selling author. And although all that she or he has is due to hard work.In the game, we follow further events in the life of the main character, who, in search of inspiration for another novel, sets off on a journey around the country. Thus, his fate is intertwined with the fate of other people, such as fans, fellow writers and completely strangers. How the protagonist’s relationships with others are formed depends solely on the decisions and behavior of the player. As for game mechanics, Always Always Monster is almost identical to its predecessor and represents a retro-story RPG, in which much attention is paid to interacting with the characters encountered and forming relationships with them, which, in turn, has a significant impact on the development plot.
Each NPC has its own character, preferences and prejudices, and an individual approach may be required to build the desired relationship with it. It is also worth noting that the developers of the sequel did not forget about the users of the original and implemented the function of importing characters, which takes into account all the decisions made in Always Always Monsters. Interestingly, the main character can take his other half with him, which in some cases will help, but, on the other hand, will hinder the achievement of the ultimate goal in the other. Sometimes Always Monsters retains the same visual style as the last part, and the action is still a bird’s-eye view. At the same time, the graphics, although still resembling 16-bit platforms, are observed from a slightly larger distance, which makes it more detailed.
