Although the Tulips look like humans, they cannot die by ordinary means, but instead their life expectancy is very limited. If the human master dies, the Tulip will also die, and vice versa. It is for this reason that they are forced to cooperate with each other if they want to stay alive. The only way to prolong their lives is to fight and kill another Tulip and her master in a duel.
