Old World — is a historical turn-based strategy by Soren Johnson, lead designer of Civilization 4 and Offworld Trading Company, whose events unfold in the era of classicism. You can not only create your empire, but also establish the greatest dynasty. The game features innovative mechanics, for example, orders that limit the total number of actions on one move, but at the same time allow you to use them for at least one unit. The number of these orders can be increased by increasing the legitimacy of oneself as the ruler of the Miracle system, fulfilling ambitious goals and gaining titles. Each turn in Old World represents one in-game year, and since the ruler is not immortal, you need to take care of procreation. The uniqueness of each party is achieved through more than a thousand events.

Most of the time in the Old World we spend on a world map covered with a grid of hexagons. The game takes place in a step-by-step mode, and since one move means one year in the game world, during the game we play not as one ruler, but under the control of a whole dynasty, which strengthens its position from generation to generation. , The victory condition is the fulfillment of ten so-called ambitions, that is, special tasks facing the dynasty, each of which is more difficult than the previous one. They are generated gradually, based on our previous achievements, the personality of the current character, as well as events in which we should participate. There are more than a thousand recent, inspired by events known from the pages of ancient history events often create a domino effect, one causes the other, this, in turn, is the cause of the other and so on.

While playing, we build and expand cities and the surrounding rural areas, building various buildings, including wonders of the world, shrines, amphitheaters and garrisons. How many actions we can perform this turn is determined by a system of orders, the number of which we can increase by acquiring the so-called legitimacy and, therefore, strengthening our position on the throne. This applies to the construction of buildings, participation in events and diplomatic activities, as well as the conduct of wars. Of course, for all this we need raw materials, such as food, wood, stone and iron, which we purchase ourselves or through trade. Interestingly, the developers introduced a system here, known from the game Offworld Trading Company, which ensures that market prices fluctuate depending on supply and demand. Moreover, an important role in the Old World is played by the development of technologies based on the mechanics borrowed from maps. As we progress, we create a deck of cards related to specific technological discoveries, which leads to the need to make difficult choices about which studies should be rejected at the moment and which ones should be prioritized.
