Battle Cry of Freedom — is a multiplayer action game with simulation and tactical elements. The game was developed by Flying Squirrel Entertainment, an independent studio known for its well-received Mount and Blade Warband add-on Napoleonic Wars. Battle Cry of Freedom is set during the 1861-1865 North American Civil War between the United States of America North and the Confederate States of America South. We are on one of the sides of the conflict and are fighting for victory. In Battle Cry of Freedom, we watch what is happening from the position of the first FPP or third TPP person. We participate in large battles, in which up to 500 players simultaneously take part.

Skirmishes take place on huge maps. Among them you can find both manually created locations inspired by real battlefields and randomly generated arenas. In addition, the game received a sophisticated map builder that allows you to create your own levels and share them with the community. Skirmishes are varied by changing weather conditions and stormy phenomena such as thunderstorms, heavy rain, thick fog and gusty winds. Depending on our preferences and needs, we can play different roles on the battlefield. While regular infantrymen are on the front line, snipers provide support from a safe distance, musicians drummer, bagpiper or trumpeter help pass orders and raise the morale of the soldiers, gunners fire heavy cannons, engineers build fortifications, build pontoon bridges, blow up strategically important buildings or supply allies with ammunition, and surgeons treat wounded allies.

The game provides us with an extensive arsenal, and among more than 120 types of weapons we will find shotguns, carbines, pistols and even sabers, knives and axes. All this is complemented by 20 types of artillery, which can be loaded with a variety of ammunition from cannonballs, timed fuse cartridges to cluster bombs. The exchange of fire and hand-to-hand combat were designed with realism in mind. This is especially true for shooting, which is controlled by an advanced physics engine, and the behavior of projectiles is influenced, in particular, by factors such as wind, humidity and temperature. The game also allows us to customize the appearance of our soldier. We can choose from a wide range of shoes, hats and raincoats which can be worn in many different ways.

In Battle Cry of Freedom we can only play in multiplayer mode. In addition to the classic battles, in which individual squads perform tasks assigned to them, there are so-called commander battles, in which we take control of a company of bots and, using tactical flair, lead it into battle for victory. In addition, the game has the opportunity to enroll in a regiment clan and take part in the so-called linear battles that recreate historical events. Notably, the game includes extensive server administration options. From a technical standpoint, the graphics of Battle Cry of Freedom look very good. In addition, the environment here is subject to advanced destruction. Everything was designed with attention to historical detail, from both the look of the soldier’s uniforms and weapons, to the places where battles take place, and the animation created from historical exercise manuals. The same can be said for the soundtrack, which features songs by the South Carolina 2nd String Band and classical music by the United States Military Band.
