Max Payne 3 — the third part in a series of futuristic third-person shooters with the constant atmosphere of the film Noir. Max Payne 3 was developed by Rockstar Games, which took on a franchise from Remedy Entertainment. The game is set a few years after the events presented in the second part of the series. Max Payne, a former NYPD officer, is forced to accept work as a bodyguard for an influential family in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It seems that trivial work soon turns into a vicious struggle for survival. The creators of Max Payne 3 sought to maintain the atmosphere characteristic of the first two games. There is also a «trademark» function of the series bullet-time slow sequences.

At the same time, combat mechanics were rebuilt, focusing on the recently introduced cover system. New adventures of the eminent character occur a few years after the events of previous games. Max, a former policeman with a turbulent past, spends his free time on bars and avoids trouble. Unfortunately, problems, like them, find him anyway. As a result of an unpleasant incident in New York, Payne goes to the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo and looks after a bodyguard for an extremely wealthy family. It turns out that this seemingly simple work will require Max to use all his abilities.

The history of the game unfolds with the help of video bets, in which a comic form, known from the first two parts, can usually be present. A new story is a combination of current events taking place in São Paulo and the recollections of Max’s memories from New York. Thanks to this decision, Rockstar was able to recreate the atmosphere of the original Remedy Studios games and at the same time introduce a completely new environment a South American city flowing with corruption and crime.

In this fight, Max fights against violent gangs and paramilitary organizations. For the purposes of the third Max Payne game, Rockstar modified its RAGE and Euphoria technologies to accurately recreate the shootings. Characters involved in the exchange of fire, including Max himself, dynamically and realistically respond to what is happening on the screen. This is even more important, since the pinnacle of the gameplay mechanics is still a well-known bullet time mode — it significantly slows down the time, thereby giving the player an advantage in difficult situations. The gameplay was also enriched with a cover system and a few other interesting features.
