Users create unique builds for their Expeditionaries that suit their style through gear, stats, skills, and character synergies. The campaign provides a dynamic combat experience where players can dodge, parry, and counter in real time, chain combos by mastering attack rhythms, and target enemy weaknesses using a free aiming system.

The story centers around the crew of the 33rd Expedition, led by Gustave and Maelle, as they embark on a mission to end the cycle of death caused by the Artist. The Artist awakens once a year to paint a number on her monolith, and those of that age fizzle out and disappear. With only one year left to live, the Expeditionary Force follows in the footsteps of previous failed expeditions, uncovering their fates and learning to work together despite incredible odds.
