The game takes place during the Mid Autumn Festival in Gensokyo, when a mysterious moon creates eternal night and draws dangerous youkai into the open. Players must navigate intense danmaku battles while uncovering a conspiracy connected to the "Moon Capital" exhibition.

The story centers on Fujiwara no Mokou, an immortal warrior who initially maintains neutrality as conflicts involving youkai rage in the bamboo forest. When even powerful figures like Kine begin to resist the rebellion and behave strangely, Mokou realizes that Eientei may have engulfed all of Gensokyo as part of some grand plan. Compared to previous installments, the game features improved visuals and more detailed illustrations, creating the intricate bullet patterns that form the main objective.

Combat focuses on precise movement through complex danmaku formations, while the game offers beginner-friendly tutorials and hint systems.
