SECTOR ZERO, with its visual style built on stark contrast, immerses you in a grim world of industrial ruins. The game features a stark black-and-white palette, where crisp, light lines sharply outline the dark debris against a backdrop of absolute emptiness. The only bright accent in this monochrome space are the deadly red lasers, which pose the main threat to the protagonist. They must be carefully avoided or deactivated. The core of the gameplay is overcoming platforming challenges and solving puzzles tightly tied to physical interaction with the environment. Despite the apparent chaos of space debris, navigation through the levels is intuitive thanks to well-thought-out yet unobtrusive visual cues.

The plot revolves around the awakening of an ancient entity, its peace disturbed by human activity during resource extraction deep within an asteroid. You take control of this creature, forced to navigate its way through heaps of space-age industrial waste that resemble swamps. Navigating SECTOR ZERO environments often requires navigating cramped ventilation shafts, creating an oppressive sense of claustrophobia. As you progress, new abilities are unlocked, such as the ability to manipulate objects remotely. Some sections require stealth to avoid direct confrontation. The entire story is a classic sci-fi tale of the consequences of humanity's reckless incursion into the unknown.
