Winter Survivor Protocol asks a simple question. How far would you go to uncover the truth when the cold itself is trying to kill you. This 2026 adventure RPG simulation open world survival game from RECAST follows a lone protagonist who must piece together what happened at a secret arctic research station. The latest version adds a permadeath mode where death erases your save, increasing the tension of every decision.

Open world exploration is non linear, you can follow the main story or venture into dangerous areas for rare supplies and lore. Survival realism includes calorie based weight management, carrying too much burns energy faster. RPG progression lets you specialize in stealth to avoid wildlife, or become a hunter to take down wolves and bears. Simulation elements extend to weather forecasting, using a barometer to predict blizzards. Adventure gameplay involves solving environmental puzzles, such as repairing a radio tower or melting ice with a makeshift stove. The game features multiple endings based on how much of the truth you uncover and how many survivors you save. The art style is desaturated and bleak, with occasional flashes of aurora colors.
