About The Game

Metroid Dread — is the fifth installment in the Metroid-branded mainstream series and a sequel to Metroid Fusion. The game originated in the early years of the 21st century, but the developers were forced to abandon the project due to technological limitations. After all, the game was created through a collaboration between Nintendo and Mercury Steam Entertainment, who previously helped develop Metroid Samus Returns. Metroid Dread continues the story of Samus Aran, a space bounty hunter with a long history with the dangerous and nominally extinct Metroid race. The heroine travels to the planet ZDR, attracted by a mysterious message sent to the Galactic Federation. While there, she will have to face not only dangerous life forms, but also ruthless machines called EMMI.

The developers also wanted the new Metroid to appeal to those unfamiliar with the series. Dread does not require you to know the previous parts the events from them were presented in the prologue. In many ways, Metroid Dread is a classic example of Metroidvania, a genre that derives half of its name from the series. This is a two-dimensional actually 2.5D action game with platformer elements, in which instead of separate levels, we have many interconnected locations. In them we find enemies to be defeated, as well as various obstacles. Some of them initially block access to certain places, but over time, Samus gains access to new abilities, not only useful in battle.

The several years that have passed since the release of the last 2D version of Metroid have also brought in several gameplay modifications. Metroid Dread expands on the mechanics known from Fusion by modifying old abilities and weapons and adding new ones. This includes temporary reinforcements and camouflage that will come in handy against the new E.M.M.I. These robots patrol certain areas and, upon noticing Samus, immediately begin pursuit. Her standard weapons cannot stop machines, so Samus must either flee or avoid being discovered by EMMI. Although Metroid Dread takes a typical 2D gaming perspective, the developers have ditched 2D graphics in favor of 3D models and locations.

Thanks to this, from time to time we can look at the game world from the point of view of the main character or from behind her for example, using certain abilities. The game is designed in a dark, futuristic style bright colors are rare here, but dirty locations and monstrous enemies are in the order of things. Like Metroid Fusion, the game has an eerie atmosphere with atmospheric music. There are also some audiovisual touches worthy of modern production, such as sound that changes underwater and various special effects.
