The essence of the gameplay, oddly enough, is painfully familiar and trivial — build defensive-attacking structures and defend yourself against waves of opponents approaching in stages. It is noteworthy that all structures are completely destroyed under the pressure of enemy shells.

In Forts, developers from the small independent studio EarthWork Games implemented a system of commanders. Its meaning lies in special characters that give the player various advantages. Each commander has a number of passive abilities that always act. In addition to the so-called passivation, each such character has an ultimate skill that can completely reverse the outcome of any battle. This skill is activated provided that a certain amount of damage is dealt to the enemy.

The first fighter is in the Eagle Empire army, the second in the Dragon Army, and the third in the Steel Bear Alliance. Bonuses from heroes vary.
