The Demons Told Me to Make This Game begins in the town of Red Hive at 5:00 AM on October 26, 2016. This moment marks the beginning of the last day of the world: a blood ritual is completed and a spirit named Dark Wisp appears in the Void. As this incorporeal entity, the player cannot directly interact with the physical world. The main method of influence is to possess the inhabitants of the town and whisper instructions in their ears to direct their actions.

In The Demons Told Me to Make This Game, the gamer must move along a repeating time loop to solve mysteries. People possessed by you act at their own discretion, and their decisions often lead to death. The user has control over the flow of time - a mechanism for undoing fatal errors and experimenting with different outcomes in non-linear storylines. The game's narrative requires solving a series of such cycles, broken into specific time periods, to guide characters destined to save the world from ancient gods and other monsters.

Surviving your subjects is a complex process built on manipulation. Creating a successful timeline involves observing events from multiple angles and conducting numerous, sometimes brutal, experiments. You'll have to force the possessed to commit heinous acts that go against their nature and watch them die repeatedly, learning new things from each case. Influencing these individuals includes exploiting their deepest fears or using minigames to take over their minds. While you direct a team of exorcists against the city's darkness, your own motives remain an open part of the story.
