Prospector sends the player to an uninhabited planet, where it is necessary to establish the extraction of minerals and build a production chain. Work begins with primitive installations and a modest set of equipment. Gradually, deposits of rare materials are discovered - some are hidden under layers of rock, others are found among exotic flora. There is a need to create mechanisms, connect them into a single scheme, automate the routine. The entire system revolves around the extraction, processing and sending of goods to remote stations.

As the infrastructure develops, Prospector focuses on automation and logistics. Robotic modules gradually replace manual labor, making it possible to focus on planning. Trade with alien colonies comes to the fore. Partners request specific cargo in exchange for blueprints, improvements or access to rare technologies. Establishing such contacts requires accurate resource accounting and competent distribution of supplies. Storage capacity, loading intervals and types of materials must be kept under control.

As the surface is developed, unusual areas are discovered. Some contain substances with unusual properties, others hide traces of past activity. To access them, it is necessary to deviate from the main strategy, temporarily construct auxiliary objects. The search for artifacts and rare compounds requires ingenuity, but affects the entire production rhythm.
