Rusty Rangers takes the player to intricate locations with a constantly changing structure and hidden routes. Each run begins with choosing one of the available rangers, who have different skills and types of weapons. As you move through a chain of rooms with traps, enemies and secret areas, precise calculation of movements and attention is required. Meetings with strong enemies placed deep in the levels do not forgive mistakes. Checkpoints are rare, forcing you to maintain concentration until the end of each attempt.

The combat system in Rusty Rangers is based on high mobility and quick reactions. The methods of attack depend on the chosen hero, but everyone has to maneuver in narrow passages, vertical shafts and areas with numerous threats. Meetings with leaders occur regularly, forcing you to rebuild your tactics. These fights become more difficult, requiring memorization of sequences and precise timing. Defeat returns you to the beginning, but the collected improvements help change the situation in the next runs.

This action game encourages repeated exploration of locations. Although the dungeon architecture is constantly updated, individual elements and room types remain recognizable, allowing you to piece together a strategy piece by piece. Manipulating objects in the environment reveals alternate routes and hidden areas that contain useful or risky finds. Some characters are better at moving, while others operate from a distance or in close combat, making each session different from the last.
