The Girl from Arkanya follows treasure hunter Marisa as she ventures into the Amazon jungle to continue her family's business and earn her reputation. Her quest for fame and fortune takes a serious turn after a fateful event forces her to form an unlikely alliance. She will team up with a magical capybara known as Ka'apiuara Yum Kaax, or simply Kapi.

Together, they set out on a journey to save their home, while trying to profit from their finds and traversing lands filled with mysteries and dangers. The world of The Girl from Arkanya features 7 unique zones filled with inhabitants, landmarks, and treasures. Players will explore 6 themed dungeons that are key to the story and contain both dangers and valuable artifacts that reveal the history of the region. Gameplay revolves around 15 different tools used to solve puzzles and in combat.

Some items can be upgraded to more powerful versions, opening up previously inaccessible areas and offering new playstyles. Completing dungeons rewards Marisa with spells that are activated by performing sacred dances. These rituals grant strength and abilities to both the treasure hunter and her companion. The game emphasizes switching between the two characters as a core mechanic to overcome the many challenges. The title also supports local co-op, allowing a second player to join in and take control of the hero at any point in the adventure.
