SHUTEN ORDER begins with an investigation into the brutal murder of a religious leader who promoted apocalyptic ideas. The player analyzes crime scenes, collects evidence, and interacts with characters whose goals and motivations change as events unfold. Dialogue choices affect the reactions of others and reveal hidden details. The countdown to the end of humanity creates pressure, and early decisions are reflected in subsequent episodes of the project. New facts are revealed during the investigation, pushing towards unexpected discoveries and new directions of action. The title combines five interconnected adventures, each of which opens up new locations and puzzles, sometimes requiring several storylines to be carried out in parallel.

The plot includes mature themes such as violence, power struggles, and explicit scenes in the context of the narrative. Character encounters range from verbal manipulation to outright threats, the consequences of which are manifested in the remaining episodes.
