Resident Evil 9 Requiem is the ninth title in the survival horror series, stylized as Re9uiem to denote its numerical position in the series. This project continues the storyline of RE Village while also opening a new chapter for the franchise. The game introduces Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst and the central character and daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, the journalist from Resident Evil: Outbreak. Resident Evil Requiem begins with Grace's investigation into a series of mysterious deaths attributed to a specific disease, a case that forces her to confront her personal past. The investigation leads the protagonist to a hotel in Raccoon City, the site where her mother was murdered eight years prior to the events of the title.

Players will guide the protagonist through sections of the ruined metropolis a setting absent from the series for many years after its destruction by a thermonuclear weapon. Although the ruins of a police station are visible, Raccoon City isn't the setting. The plot also locks Grace in a mysterious mansion, an isolated space with its own dangers. Grace's primary goal is to uncover the truth behind her mother's death, and this personal quest drives the events. Her search leads her on the trail of new threats. As the story unfolds, the protagonist becomes a target for mutants, forcing her to trade her role as investigator for that of survivor. The narrative aims to expand the franchise's established mythology and introduce significant events with ramifications that will impact the entire game universe.
