About The Game

Samson is a crime action game steeped in the aesthetics of '90s cinema, offering an uncompromising survival experience. The streets of the fictional Tyndallston are constantly transforming, reacting sensitively to every decision and shifting the balance of power between factions. Exploring hostile neighborhoods is intertwined with brutal hand-to-hand combat and the use of vehicles as weapons of destruction. Cars serve as tools for setting traps and ramming enemies, with realistic damage physics directly affecting handling.

Theft of civilian vehicles is deliberately blocked, forcing players to rely on their own skill during chases involving police helicopters and roadblocks. Completing the main story takes 10 hours, and fully exploring the secrets will take approximately 25 hours. Samson storyline centers on the fate of bouncer McCray, who returns home to save his sister. The protagonist strives to rebuild his broken family while under the weight of mounting financial obligations. His daily quota inexorably increases, requiring him to complete dangerous missions to pay off his debt. Any activity consumes a limited amount of points, making it completely impossible to undo actions.

We’ve been reading through your feedback about the game, and one thing that we have seen come up consistently is performance related questions or issues. So, we thought it would be helpful to put together a quick guide. If you run into performance problems, there are often a few things you can try on your end that may significantly improve your experience.

General Performance and Stability
Something that can immediately help for crashes and otherwise, is to always make sure to update your graphics drivers before playing.

If you experience stuttering, restarting your computer or resetting the video drivers (Windows Key + Ctrl + Shift + B) might help. If a computer has been running for more than a day, we have noticed issues where calls to drivers take longer and longer. This is due to driver issues or other software that has reserved video memory, and it shows up in the game as stuttering. Restarting the drivers solves these problems.

System Requirements & Setup
The game requires a DX12-capable discrete video card and 6 GB of video memory on low-quality settings at 1920x1080 output resolution.

Make sure the game is installed on an SSD drive. As an open-world game, Samson is constantly streaming data when you are moving. If the game is installed on a hard drive rather than an SSD, streaming will simply not be fast enough, and the game will pause (i.e. stutter). It does this in order to allow collisions to load, preventing the player from falling through the world.

CPU Performance & Bottlenecks
Samson is CPU-intensive, especially when driving fast around the world. This is because we constantly need to stream in new geometry, vehicles, and characters, and destroy the things you leave behind. Most players we have seen are CPU-limited, and when CPU-limited, the video settings do not matter much. Make sure you do not have other CPU-intensive programs running in the background. We highly recommend using Frame Generation if you are CPU-limited. If you do not see Frame Generation in the menus and have a graphics card that supports it, make sure you are running with an updated driver.

Tentative fix for a crash related to the in-game movie streamer.
Fix for shader compilation crash.

Localization
Much improved translation coverage including missing characters for Turkish.
Much improved translation coverage for German
Much improved translation coverage for Italian
General localization polish for Spanish and French
Localized text has been added to the controller help screen for all supported languages.

Missions & Jobs
Fixed a bug in the "Hot Iron" mission where the Weapon Dealer Antwan might not spawn after mission failure/abort.
Players should no longer be able to get locked in the bathroom of the Mansion during replaying the mission "Evil" (Chapter 13).
Fixed a serious issue in the Volkov mission where the mission could fail if Volkov became aggressive before the dialogue could start.
Fixed the visibility issue in "Looking for Volkov" (Chapter 12).
Fixed various issues with states not being reset when replaying missions after having Accepted Defeat and replaying them again the next day.
Getaway Jobs: Resolved an issue where warning messages from previous missions (e.g., "You left the guys in the car") could incorrectly appear in later Jobs.
ACAB: Expanded the boundaries of the combat area to allow players more freedom during the fight.
If the Kids Are United: Increased the size of the Beatdown area to give players more strategic options for the fight.

Combat
Improved reliability of Takedowns.
Decreased risk of interruption from Takedowns.
Increased window for successful parry.
Reduced repetition of heavy attacks resulting in increased variety.
Balancing of combat encounters.

Gameplay
Reduced the AP cost of Street Trials by 1 AP. This makes them less punishing to attempt and retry, addressing low engagement due to difficulty. It also lets players use leftover 1 AP at the end of the day instead of wasting it. It's also the first step in the bigger effort to further balance the game loop as a whole.
Reduced the engine start delay when entering a vehicle, allowing you to drive away faster.
Fixed an issue that prevented players from using vehicle interactions if the car was flipped over.
Fixed a bug where a notification would fail to appear if a vehicle call failed because the vehicle was wrecked.
Vehicles (except Samson's car) will now properly restore their state after an End-of-Day reset.
Removed damage taken on undercarriage impacts on your vehicle while driving. This is a first step toward improving overall vehicle gameplay balance
