About The Game

Phonopolis is an adventure puzzle game from Amanita Design, the creators of Machinarium and Samorost, set in a dystopian cardboard city where loudspeakers control every aspect of the citizens' lives. You play as Felix, a young garbage man who mysteriously becomes immune to the broadcasts of the authoritarian Leader and must prevent the emergence of the Absolute Tone a sound that will forever destroy the free will of all people. The game's plot is inspired by the works of Karel Čapek and George Orwell and explores themes of social manipulation and individualism while maintaining a playful tone.

Gameplay revolves around manipulating the city's loudspeakers to control other characters and interacting with the cardboard environment through creative puzzles rotating walls, moving floors, controlling mechanisms, and tearing apart paper obstacles. The entire game is rendered in a hand-painted paper style, digitized into a 3D world with traditional 12 frames-per-second animation, capturing the nostalgic atmosphere of stop-motion films. The visual design draws on avant-garde movements such as constructivism, futurism, and suprematism of the interwar period, reflecting the propaganda aesthetics of totalitarian societies. Each puzzle is uniquely integrated into the paper-based world, offering a variety of challenges that exploit the physical properties of the cardboard environment. The game's atmosphere is enhanced by an original soundtrack by Tomáš Dvořák (Floex), who previously composed music for Machinarium and Samorost 3.
