Darkstone Restoration, an updated version of the classic 1999 RPG, has been released in Early Access on Steam. The project is being developed by Paul Cuisset, the creator of the original title. The original Darkstone action RPG was released in 1999 and became a milestone for 3D games in its genre. Twenty-seven years later, the original creator decided to adapt the game for modern personal computers. The developer emphasizes that this is not a remake, but a restoration designed to preserve the atmosphere and gameplay of the original while ensuring stable performance on modern hardware.

Darkstone Restoration adds a new mode called Buddy mode, which allows players to quickly switch control of a partner during combat for tactical positioning or spellcasting. The game also features local co-op on a single screen with shared saves and support for Steam Remote Play Together. For fans of the classic visual style, a special Legacy mode is available, restoring the game's original look from 1999. The game's technical features have received numerous improvements, including native support for 64-bit Windows systems, modern screen resolutions, controllers, and Steam Cloud technology. Dynamic shadows, modern lighting, procedural grass, and customizable fog have been implemented. Gameplay has become more enjoyable thanks to automatic gold collection, quick inventory sorting, and a redesigned spell quickbar.
