The Last Case of Benedict Fox is a metroidvania with adventure game puzzles and a souls-like combat system. The project was developed by indie studio Plot Twist and published by Rogue Games. The creators drew inspiration from the works of G.P. Lovecraft and stories about black criminals. The Last Case of Benedict Fox is set in 1920s Boston. The protagonist of the game, Benedict Fox, is a self-proclaimed detective who decides to investigate the macabre murder of a young couple and the kidnapping of their child. To do this, the main character arrives at a huge, collapsing mansion where the victims lived. Fox is not investigating alone, he is constantly accompanied by a demon who gives him supernatural powers; thanks to him, our hero can penetrate the minds of the dead in order to look for valuable information and clues there. The detective must be on the lookout, for in the surreal realm known as the Abyss, people’s painful memories take physical form.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox is a side scroller. In order to learn as much as possible about the events that took place in the old mansion, we have to explore it in search of information that we use to solve puzzles and advance the plot. The main source of clues are the bodies of the people encountered, whose minds can be penetrated by Benedict Fox. Thus, the protagonist is transferred to the Abyss, where numerous platform tests and opponents await him. Battles with demons and various monsters are dynamic, and we have to be careful, carefully looking for weaknesses in opponents and gaps in their defenses. We destroy enemies using a pistol, white weapons, found items and objects, as well as various skills that the detective is endowed with by his demonic companion. As we progress, we expand the set of our abilities, which allows us not only to solve more and more new tasks, but also to climb further and further into the Abyss and the mansion. The graphics in The Last Case of Benedict Fox are done in a colorful, cartoon style, slightly inspired by the work of Tim Burton.
