LEGO Bricktales — video games will always hold a special place in my heart some of my fondest gaming memories are with my siblings playing LEGO Star Wars games at our neighbor’s house. However, in hindsight, these licensed LEGO games make me scratch my head, because while the branding was on point, only a small part of the gameplay was dedicated to the actual building, which is kind of the brand’s entire appeal.

LEGO Bricktales is a physics-based puzzle game, and judging by the trailer announced at the Spring Future Games Show, it looks like a lot of fun. The game is being developed by Clockstone Studio, best known for creating the popular indie Bridge Constructor series. The trailer shows a series of scenarios in which the player is asked to build an object obviously made of LEGO to help complete the task. The player is then given a certain number of parts to build their object, and when construction is complete, the player can run a simulation to see if the object works as intended.

It’s a simple premise, at least from what we can tell at the moment, but sometimes the simplest concepts create games that players immerse themselves in for hundreds of hours. After watching the trailer, some compared the mechanics of the game to the mechanics of Kerbel Space Program, and I think this is a pretty appropriate comparison.
