About The Game

ShantyTown is a casual simulation game developed by Erik Rempen in which you play as a surveyor, constructing and photographing 20 unique, densely populated locations inspired by cramped urban spaces around the world. Each location from the Hotpot Casino to the Marshlands Pipe and the lighthouse has its own unique set of objects, limited space, and a distinct atmosphere that you'll imbue with food trucks, neon signs, buildings, and decorations. The core gameplay encourages vertical construction and creative placement of objects, including upgradable structures like shops and residential buildings that evolve as you furnish them with lighting, utilities, and decorations. Completing upgrades unlocks new objects for future builds, expanding your creative toolbox as you explore each blank canvas. Once you're satisfied with a location, take a photo of it and add it to your inventory before moving on.

Creative mode offers unlimited building with all items unlocked, while Blankspace provides a vast sandbox for designing your own cities without limits. The game features a relaxing vaporwave soundtrack by Macroblank, detailed camera settings for framing your creations, and hidden objects scattered throughout each map. Without time limits, wrong answers, or pressure, ShantyTown focuses on personal expression and the charm of cluttered, lived-in urban spaces. Optional objectives provide easy guidance for those who need it, but the experience is designed to be enjoyed entirely at your own pace.
