About The Game
VARIANTBIRTH asks a simple question. What if you could see all the lives you could have lived, and every single one was hiding a lie. This 2025 adventure visual novel game from abalonekiss, POISON, and PRODUCTION PENCIL drops you into a liminal space where you must choose between seven doorways. Each door reveals a variant of your own identity, a teacher, a criminal, a parent, a ghost. You walk through their memories, interact with their loved ones, and slowly uncover a conspiracy that transcends timelines. The latest version adds a glossary of terms that updates as you discover new concepts, helping you track the complex lore.
Visual novel storytelling is non linear, encouraging multiple playthroughs to understand the full picture. Adventure gameplay involves investigating each variant’s room for clues, such as a torn photograph or a hidden key, which then unlock new dialogue options in other variants. The game has no combat, only the tension of making choices that might erase a variant forever. The art style is soft but unsettling, with character sprites that subtly change expression based on your relationship with them. The soundtrack features a single cello and distant clock ticks.
