Beacon Pines — is a beautiful, moving and surprisingly sinister story-driven adventure where words really matter when you use them to change the story of a cute deer and his friends as darkness enters their idyllic storybook world. Beacon Pines is set in the pages of a mysterious, magical storybook that is still being written. The adventure of a young reindeer named Luca, whose father is dead and whose mother is missing. Now he is looked after by his grandmother, and he walks with a cheerful and cocky best friend named Rolo. City they live in seems pretty pleasant and peaceful, but Rolo has heard rumors of an abandoned warehouse that could turn everything upside down.

Perhaps just as important as Luca in Beacon Pines is the book itself, which speaks to you and tells you what’s going on, prompting you to change the story. As you explore the beautiful hand-drawn city of Beacon Pines, you may discover hidden adorable words that you can use as dialogue and action options at story turning points to dramatically change the course of events. You can even unlock new Enchantments in one branch of the story, and then travel back in time to use new Enchantments and open up a whole other branch of the story. The differences your choices make are not superficial either; they can completely change history.

The way you can influence the story is very unusual, but what is also impressive about Beacon Pines is how well the dialogue is written and how cute the characters are. The friendship between Luca and Rolo seems very real, and every character they meet is memorable and interesting like in a Coen brothers movie. There are some pretty dark twists in the story, but there are also hilarious moments, and by the end of the early game, you’ll be dying to see more. A touching, unusual and beautiful adventure with a big heart. Highly recommended.
