Deaths Door — is an isometric action game where exploring inhospitable worlds and fighting enemies is essential. The game has a very artistic graphic design and was developed by the small studio Acid Nerve. The story of Deaths Door takes place in a world where ravens form well-organized communities and are shared by their responsibilities. The main character’s task is to find the souls of the dead in the world behind the Door. Despite the monotony of this work, he really likes it. However, things get more complicated when an unknown thief steals one of the souls and begins to run with it through a land full of old, power-hungry creatures.
In the course of the story, we will meet many powerful opponents led by terrible titans. Each of them has its own story and motivation according to which they act. In addition, we also learn the truth about Raven’s role in soul transfer, and the narrative is filled with dark humor. The entire gameplay is based on arcade combat and exploration. We observe everything from an isometric point of view, with the exception of a few director’s cuts. During battles, Raven mainly uses her short sword, but can also aid herself with magical ranged attacks. In addition to striking alone, we also dodge enemy attacks by turning at the right moment. The enemies that stand in the Raven’s path take on various eerie forms depicting the horrors of the land of the dead. You will come across not only ghost dolls and overgrown frog monsters, but also massive mechanical locks that shoot lasers, or knights formed from pieces of scrap metal joined together.
They are divided into ordinary, noisy enemies filling the locations, and tougher bosses with unique attacks and behavior. Each of them has a mini-story attached, expanding the knowledge of the game world and allowing you to see the main story from a different point of view. Thanks to the experience points gained, we can improve the characteristics of the Raven or improve the work of certain skills and improvements.
