You will be forgiven for missing Craftopia, a brand new and very ambitious game from Japanese studio Pocket Pair, INC, which comes out on Steam in July. The game is clearly inspired by a game like Breath of the Wild, but plans to combine crafting, mechanical automation and resource gathering into it. Pocket Pair is a Japanese studio known for its Overdungeon card game. It has high ratings on Steam and provides some assurance that Craftopia can deliver on at least some of its broad promises. In the West, Craftopia has received little press coverage as the game is designed primarily for a Japanese audience, but like Overdungeon, Steam will have full English support.

It is noted as a survival, crafting and open world game with elements of action and adventure. The short trailer on Steam showcases a world in no different content or art style than Breath of the Wild or Windbound. However, the game makes other big promises as well. Presumably, there are over 3000 items to craft, unlock and craft. These items can then be combined with others and endlessly modified with various enchantments. There is a combination of slashing and slashing gameplay with different creatures around the world to fight, but you can also create automated systems to help you gather materials faster. You can grow your farm, explore different biomes and dungeons, and even play online.

As you progress through the game, you will gain access to various skills in your skill tree, allowing you to customize your character as you play. Gain strength and you can defeat powerful bosses. This seems like a very ambitious project that attempts to combine several different genres of games. Whether Pocket Pair, INC, whose debut card game Overdungeon is highly rated on Steam, can deliver on those broad promises is another matter.
