About The Game

Tropico 6 is a great game for people who love economic strategies. This is a satirical city-builder, in which each of the inhabitants of your banana republic is simulated. You put a mine. You watch as the construction team sneaks to the construction site. You are watching a newly built mine start digging for gold, coal, uranium, or something else. And you watch the teams come to pick up the raw materials to the factory for processing.

When everything goes well, a soothing rhythm appears in the bustle of your island. When this is not the case, you start scouring the map, trying to diagnose problems. Why was the mine not built? Why are off-site workers? Why the goods were not transported? Why a raw material processing plant? Why not shipping at the docks? The next cargo ship will not arrive within six months, and if I do not fulfill this trade order, the Axis forces will declare war on me because of the time when I used them as a scapegoat to win the election. Focused, individualized modeling means that small inefficiencies can grow into big problems, and the behavior of your citizens reflects on broader systems in an interesting way. That’s why, although there is a sandbox mode with many different islands and options, often the Tropico series are best suited for campaign missions, where specific requirements force you to adapt.

In the sandbox, you can go slowly, reasonably expanding your island, diligently pursuing new financial enterprises, effectively calming political factions and superpowers. You have the space and freedom to effectively manage your growth as you progress through different eras. But the missions — presented as an anthology of past adventures, told by your faithful assistant Penultimo — are thrown into enthralling curved balls to overcome them. Each of them is devoted to different aspects of the game, whether it be propaganda propaganda, the problems of mass tourism, balancing international relations or the benefits of light piracy. The latter is one of the most spectacular. Starting from an island that has virtually no natural resources, you have to loot raw materials, and then produce more profitable goods. The raid system is a powerful new tool, in fact, giving a regular set of goods, immigrants and, in later times, useful propaganda and even falsified tourist reviews. The need to create supply chains that are not supported by local cultures is a significant turnaround in a standard campaign.
