Primal Hearts is a Japanese visual novel that puts you at the center of a unique romantic drama set in high school life at Ainoshima Academy. As a transfer student, you become the deciding vote between two rival student councils, the traditional Gekka Council and the progressive Tendo Council. The game features over 15 hours of storytelling with full Japanese voice acting from professional actors. The narrative evolves based on your choices, mostly centered around your decision to support one of the councils. The Gekka Council, led by the elegant but aloof Sera Kuragano, emphasizes tradition and proper behavior. In contrast, the Tendo Council, led by the charismatic first-year Haruhi Tenjindaira, strives for innovation and cheerful reform.

Your journey will be enriched by interactions with a diverse cast of characters, including cheerful cafe worker Yuzuki, seasoned high school student Kana, clumsy teacher Mei, and fashionable treasurer Michi. Each character is fully voiced and has their own personality and backstory that influences the overall narrative. The game’s main conflict revolves around the balance between political expectations and romantic interests, as the council’s choices directly impact relationship possibilities.
